Ombre Paper Flower Tutorial

Hey there my fellow crafty peeps, I’ve got a neat tutorial to show you today. I’ll be making a paper flower out of watercolour paper and then I have a little video to show you how to do an ombre look on the petals.

Ombreflowers

So lets get started.

supplies These are some supplies I’ll be using, a glue gun would work great(but I don’t have one…I know, I know I can’t believe it either).

3x4paper4”x3” pieces of coldpress watercolour paper.

This is how I created the ombre look for the petals.

petalsYou’ll need to make large enough slits in the petals so the stem can fit through.

stemsI used flower stem tape, wire stems and some stems I had from a faux flower bouquet. Or if you have the ones on the far left, they are awesome too.

stemandtrinket

stemwrappedI hooked the wire through the trinket and twisted the end to secure it, then I twisted the wire around the stem.

petalonstem

threepetalsonstemTo get a realistic looking petal, bend and roll it around a bit and it will to give them their lovely shape. After the first three petals are in position, add glue to secure and continue adding more petals in a staggered pattern.

tapeonstemOnce your flower is complete, wrap the stem with some stem tape for a finished look.

flowerwithrainThe result…a beautiful paper flower!

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial, have a super awesome crafty day!

This is the pillow box that I made with the punch board and embellished with one of my shrink plastic snowflakes.

Here’s my video!

I used these very cool YNS sentiment dies with silver foil that comes with an adhesive back.

Now what would a pillow box be without some goodies inside. This box can be customized to whatever length from 4-12 inches, I made this one long enough to fit a pencil.

I hope you all enjoyed my tutorial!

How To Do Shabby Chic Tutorial

Hello Crafty peeps! I’m sure some if not all of you love and have seen these shabby chic styled cards and wondered how they do it. Because I know I did, so today I’m going to show you how.

My idea of shabby chic is a vintage, girly and distressed look. Most of all it has to be over the top embellished with lace, jewels, pearls, butterflies, flowers and lots of pretty stuff. A little curled up corner with some tears here and there will also do the trick. I will be using a few key products that really help add to the over all shabby chic look. Go grab a cup of tea and enjoy!

shabbychic copyHere is my card!

Below is the How To Do Shabby Chic

papersAs always I start off with a selection of design papers and my coloured image.

cheese cloth and sicssorscheesecloth can be found at most grocery stores, it is great for crafting and making soups too!

Cut and manipulated cheese clothAfter cutting a square of cheesecloth, it needs to be manipulated. To achieve this look pull and stretch the cloth in all directions, then gently fray the loose strings along the edges. Pictured top is a cut a 3×3 square, on the bottom are two different shapes of cloth that were manipulated.

Burlap suppliesSame goes for the burlap, cut a piece and manipulate it by stretching and pulling to your liking.

Manipulated burlapA close up

Paint and embossing pasteThese two products combined help put the shabby in the chic.

Applying paintThis distress paint has a dauber top applicator great for easy use and application. Along the edges paint it on starting from outer edge and feathering inward. Repeat until you are satisfied with the depth of paint colour and distressed look.

finished paintFinished look with distress paint.

paste on brushAnother super fun product to work with is the embossing paste, I’ve seen it used with stencilling but thought it would work good for a shabby chic look.

paste on paperThis paste is quite thick and gives a great 3D distressed effect. Using a sponge pouncer I applied the paste along the edges with a carefree approach.

finished pasteFinished look, allow this step to dry.

paper an suppliesThis fun step involves embossing powder, embossing enamels, glitter and mica fragments.

paper with clear embosssing powderI inked up the edges with versamark and covered it with a clear ultra thick embossing powder. The ultra thick embossing powder is an essential base to allow the mica fragments to have something to adhere to. (sticky embossing powder works too)

paper with mica and enamelI sprinkled on a medley of embossing powders, glitter, fragments and mica.

clse up of finished mica and enamel

close up of enamel

Here is what they look like after being heat set. Always heat set from underneath or you will loose all your beautiful powders and fragments! (left is with embossing powders and fragments, rightt is just embossing powders.

unfinishedcardFinally raid your stash for ribbons, lace, pearls, jewels, flowers and embellish until you cannot embellish no more!

Have a fabulous day!!

Atyou Spica Glitter Pen-Lipstick, Froggy Gift(High Hopes), On The Go(Bo Bunny), X-Press It Blending Cardstock(Copic)

Hello fellow crafty friends! I have a fun paper piecing tutorial for you this week. This is one of those super easy techniques that can add a big impact to all of your projects.

paperpiecephoto1First ink up your image and stamp it on to your blending cardstock.

paperpiecephoto2

Then colour your image with which ever medium you choose. I used my copic markers, then prisma pencils and gamsol to add depth and the end.

paperpiecephoto3

You’ll need to ink up your image again and stamp the areas that you want to paper piece on to your design paper. I like to stamp a few times in case I have any mess ups.

paperpiecephoto4

This step is not necessary but i like to add a bit of depth to the parts i want to paper piece, just by using a copic and colourless blender. I used a blue copic similar in colour to the design paper.

paperpiecephoto5Again here, I just used a neutral grey and colourless blender to add depth.

paperpiecephoto6

Now your ready to cut out the selected pieces with a craft knife or scissors. when finished, turn over the pieces and apply glue.

paperpiecephoto7Finally attach your paper pieces to the matching spots on your image, the pockets on the overalls were added as a second paper piecing layer. Now you have a fun and great looking image and is ready to be incorporated into any of your projects.

Hope you all enjoyed!

Hello crafty peeps, today I have a lovely corner bookmark to share with you. I originally saw the idea done by Beate Johns on Splitcoast, I loved it and thought it would a fun tutorial to try and share my take on it.

step 1Start with a 3 x 3 square, on three of the sides mark the middle points. Then line up the marks and score, repeat connecting the other two marks.

step 2

step 3Fold at your score lines.

step 5On the un-scored side use a edge die or punch to achieve a decorative edge.

step 4I used spellbinders edge and insert dies, I like to tape them in place to avoid any mess ups.

step 6

step 9 Make two die cuts using some of your smallest sizes that will fit on your folded triangle side without hanging over. I’m also using a bird die, you could use a coloured image instead if desired.

blue squareCut a 2 and 1/8 square and then cut in half.

step 8Using design paper make two 3×3/4 pieces.

step 10On the back of the design paper add adhesive and attach some ribbon.

step 12On the back attach one of triangle pieces with adhesive and then one of the other pieces of design paper below it.

step 11Finally I attached my 2nd triangle piece and then the 2nd design paper piece below it. On top of that I attached my die cuts and placed the bird die as a finishing touch.

finished corner bookmarkAnd voila a beautiful bookmark!

Supplies Used:

~Paper: Authentique(Renew)

Cold Outside(High Hopes), Peaceful Collection(Authentique), Pearl Pen-Ice White(Viva Decor), Waddlin' By(High Hopes), X-Press It Blending Cardstock(Copic)

Hey hey! Welcome to my first tutorial(EVER!) at High Hopes. I decided to make a fun pretty gift box to give to someone special.
enjoy!

-Start off with a 5″x 12″ thick double sided pattern paper(I used paper from Authentique’s Peaceful collection)
-Score at 1″, 4″ (on the 5″ side)
-Turn paper and score at 1″, 5″, 6.5″, 10.5″ (on the 12″ side)

-Refer to the template and make cuts, tabs & folds at marked areas.(This is by far the most complex part so take time here.)
-The sides of the top of the box will only have a 0.5 cm lip to create the peek-a-boo effect.

-I used a spellbinders insert and edge dies to create the 2, 4 inch long decorative edges with coordinating cardstock. (You can also use a border punch.)

-Use adhesive on the top of the edge and place on ribbon, trim and attach to side of the box with scorepal tape. Repeat for the other side.

-I used a spellbinders Demask accents die to embellish the front lip on the box, added a button and two small brads.(You may just add a button)

Outside of Box
-I decorated the top of the box with flowers(using a fast drying glue), rhinestones, a decorative brad and pearl pen. Then I used a corner rounder and rounded the front lip on the box.

Inside of Box
-I coloured, fussy cut and placed my image and sentiment, which were raised with foam squares. Finally fill your beautiful box with some sweet treats!

Supplies Used:

~Stamp: Waddlin’ By(High Hopes), Cold Outside(High Hopes)
~Pens: Pearl Pen-Ice White(Viva Decor)
~Paper: X-Press It Blending Cardstock(Copic), Peaceful Collection(Authentique)
~Copic Markers: W00,W2.W5,W7,W9,C5,YG05,YG63,YG67,E50,E53
~Die Cuts: Classic Edges One-Edge A Edgeabilities(Spellbinders), Classic Decorative Inserts Five-Insert C Edgeabilities(Spellbinders)
~ Embellishments: Picadilly Brads-Green(Basic Grey), Buttons-Green(Keepsakes Memories), Rhinestones-Split Pea(Kaiser Craft), Mini Rose Paper Flowers(Zva Creative), Serenade Brads(Bo Bunny)
~Miscellaneous: 3D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives), Ribbon(My Stash)
